Marc-Aaron’s paintings grow organically over time. Layers are built up in such a way that the painting’s surface becomes an entry point into a visceral world of colour, form and action. Background and foreground are often interchangeable as layers of medium are veiled and unveiled. The system of production is compromised as elements of chaos and entropy threaten the underlying image. Contrast and conflict are played out through the vibratory language of pure colour. The paint application oscillates from a studied series of marks to an expressive gesture. The image continually reiterates the painting as a physical act of material process.
